This is a measured liquid with a declared complex behind it — 100 mg quercetin and 50 mg each of rose hips, citrus bioflavonoids and bilberry, all with numbers against them. Plenty of vitamin C products list rose hips and bioflavonoids with no stated amount, so you have no idea what you are getting. Here you do.

Two honest trade-offs. First, the supplier has discontinued this formula, so what we have is what there is. Why Vitamin C, Quercetin and Bioflavonoids Together?

Two things are going on here. The first is the form of the vitamin C. Calcium ascorbate is a mineral salt of ascorbic acid: the acid has been neutralised with calcium, raising the pH of the liquid so it is far less sharp than a straight ascorbic acid solution. That is what buffered means, and it matters more in a liquid than a tablet — you are putting this on your tongue and past your teeth. The vitamin C is identical once absorbed; the salt changes how it behaves on the way down.

The second is the complex. Quercetin and the citrus bioflavonoids belong to the same family of plant flavonoids, and historically they were isolated from the same citrus material early vitamin C came from — which is why the old literature called them vitamin P, and why a vitamin C complex traditionally includes them. They are not vitamin C and do not substitute for it: they are a separate group of plant antioxidants that travel with it in whole foods, and the rationale for a complex is taking the ascorbate in roughly the company nature supplies. Rose hips and bilberry are here for the same reason — both dense in their own polyphenols, rose hips being a traditional botanical source of vitamin C itself.
