Ginseng is one of the most widely used herbs in the world — an adaptogen, meaning it’s traditionally used to help the body cope with physical and mental stress. People reach for it to support energy, focus, and stamina, especially through demanding or tiring stretches. The main types differ: Korean (Panax) ginseng is the classic energizing kind, American ginseng is milder and more calming, and Siberian ginseng (eleuthero) is a different plant used similarly. You’ll find capsules, powders, and liquid extracts here — including Ontario-grown ginseng.

What ginseng is and how adaptogens work

Ginseng is one of the most widely used herbs in the world and a classic adaptogen — a term for plants traditionally used to help the body cope with physical and mental stress. People have reached for it for centuries to support energy, focus, and stamina, particularly through demanding or tiring stretches. It's taken as a daily tonic rather than a quick stimulant.

    Korean vs. American vs. Siberian

The type matters. Korean (Panax) ginseng is the classic, more energizing kind, traditionally used for vitality and performance. American ginseng is milder and considered more calming, often chosen for stress and balance. Siberian ginseng (eleuthero) is actually a different plant used in a similar adaptogenic way. Worth knowing for Canadians: a lot of the world's American ginseng is grown right here, and you'll find Ontario-grown ginseng in this collection.

    Forms and standardization

Ginseng comes as capsules, powders, and liquid extracts. Capsules are convenient; liquids and tinctures are absorbed quickly and let you adjust the dose. If consistency matters to you, look for extracts standardized to a set ginsenoside content — ginsenosides are ginseng's active compounds, and standardization keeps potency steady batch to batch.

    How to take ginseng

Most people take ginseng in the morning or early afternoon rather than at night, since the more energizing types can affect sleep. A common traditional practice is cycling — a few weeks on, then a short break — which many herbalists suggest to keep it working well. Follow the dose on the label.

    Ginseng in Canada

Ginseng supplements sold in Canada carry a Natural Product Number (NPN) from Health Canada and ship from our Ontario warehouse to addresses across Canada — including ginseng grown in Ontario, one of the world's notable growing regions. Ginseng is one of several adaptogen supplements we carry.

    A note on ginseng

Ginseng is generally well tolerated, but some people notice headaches or trouble sleeping, especially with the energizing types taken late in the day. It can interact with blood-sugar medications, blood thinners, and stimulants, so if you take any medication or are pregnant or breastfeeding, check with your healthcare provider before use.
