ZMA is a supplement blend of three nutrients — zinc, magnesium aspartate, and vitamin B6 — popular with athletes and anyone active. Each plays a role your body already relies on: zinc contributes to normal testosterone levels and immune function, magnesium to muscle function and relaxation, and B6 to normal energy metabolism. It’s typically taken in the evening, away from calcium. You’ll find standard ZMA formulas here plus versions with added herbs. It’s part of our wider range of zinc and magnesium supplements.

What ZMA is and what's in it

ZMA combines three nutrients, each with a genuine role in the body. Zinc contributes to normal testosterone levels in the blood and to immune function. Magnesium supports normal muscle function and the nervous system, and is associated with relaxation. Vitamin B6 contributes to normal energy metabolism and helps the body use the two minerals. Together they're a convenient way to cover nutrients that matter to anyone training hard.

Why athletes take ZMA

Hard training depletes minerals — zinc and magnesium are both lost through sweat — so active people can need more than a typical diet provides. ZMA is popular as a simple way to top up those two minerals along with B6, framed as replenishing what training uses rather than a stimulant or a quick fix. It's most associated with evening use and recovery.

Forms and variations

Most ZMA products follow the standard zinc / magnesium aspartate / vitamin B6 formula. Some add other ingredients — melatonin for sleep, or herbs like longjack (tongkat ali) and holy basil. Check the label if you want the plain formula versus one of the enhanced blends.

How and when to take ZMA

ZMA is traditionally taken in the evening on an empty stomach, and kept away from calcium or dairy — calcium competes with zinc and magnesium for absorption. Following the timing and dose on the label is the simplest approach.

ZMA in Canada

ZMA supplements sold in Canada carry a Natural Product Number (NPN) from Health Canada and ship from our Ontario warehouse to addresses across Canada. ZMA brings together our zinc and magnesium ranges in a single formula.

A note on ZMA

Zinc and magnesium can interact with some medications, including certain antibiotics, so space ZMA a few hours from other pills. Don't exceed the label dose — too much zinc over time works against you — and if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking medication, check with your healthcare provider first.
