Liquid iron is a popular way to take iron, especially for people who find tablets hard on the stomach — liquids and bisglycinate forms are often chosen because they tend to be gentler and easier to absorb. Iron helps your body make hemoglobin, the part of red blood cells that carries oxygen, which is why it’s tied to energy and helping reduce tiredness and fatigue. You’ll find it here as gentle bisglycinate, ionic, and plant-based liquids, many with added vitamin C, B12, or folate, plus kids’ drops and single-serve sachets. Shipped across Canada from our Ontario warehouse.

Why people choose liquid iron

  • Gentler on the stomach — iron tablets can cause constipation or nausea for some people; liquids and gentle bisglycinate forms are often chosen to avoid that.
  • Easy to absorb — liquid iron is well absorbed, and many formulas add vitamin C, which helps the body take up iron.
  • Flexible dosing — easy to adjust the amount, and a good option for anyone who finds pills hard to swallow.
  • Good for kids — liquid drops make iron easier to give to children (see our kids iron supplements).

Forms and formulas

  • Bisglycinate (gentle iron) — a form bound to an amino acid, often chosen as non-constipating and easy on the stomach.
  • Ionic and plant-based liquids — including whole-food and herbal iron formulas like Floradix.
  • With co-factors — many add vitamin C, B12, or folate, which work alongside iron.
  • Kids’ drops and sachets — child-friendly formats and single-serve travel sachets.

How to choose

If tablets have bothered you before, a liquid bisglycinate is a common starting point. Look at the amount of elemental iron per serving (that’s the number that matters, not the total compound), whether it includes vitamin C or B-vitamins, and the format that suits you — bottle, sachet, or kids’ drops.

An important safety note

Iron matters to get right. Only supplement iron if you know you need it — ideally confirmed by a blood test with your healthcare provider — since too much iron isn’t good for you and more isn’t better. And critically: keep iron supplements out of reach of children. Iron is one of the most common causes of accidental poisoning in young kids, so store it safely, and if a child takes too much, contact a poison control centre or doctor right away.
