What egg white protein is

Egg white protein powder is albumen — the clear part of the egg — pasteurised, dried and milled. Roughly 80% of a whole egg’s protein sits in the white, with the yolk carrying the fat and most of the micronutrients, so an egg white powder is close to pure protein with very little fat or carbohydrate. Its amino acid profile is complete, and it was historically used as the reference standard against which other proteins’ biological value was scored.

How it compares

Against whey, egg white digests more slowly than whey isolate and is free of lactose and casein, while whey is higher in leucine. Against plant proteins, egg white is complete on its own where many single-source plant proteins are low in one or another essential amino acid, though plant blends are formulated to cover that. Egg white is not vegan. Which one suits depends on what you are avoiding and how fast you want it absorbed — all three deliver complete protein.

Digestion rate

Egg white sits between whey and casein on absorption speed, which is why it turns up in blends aiming for a middle release rate rather than a fast spike or a slow drip. It is a practical difference rather than a better-or-worse one: faster suits around training, slower suits longer gaps.
