Vitalux AREDS-S Multivitamin Details
An eye-health caplet carrying lutein, zinc, copper, vitamin C and vitamin E, with a smaller amount of zeaxanthin than the Advanced formula. Two caplets daily with food.
One point is worth being straight about. The AREDS trials studied people who already had intermediate or advanced age-related macular degeneration, and found a reduction in the rate of progression — not prevention in healthy eyes, and not reversal of damage already done. The licensed claim reflects that: it helps delay the progression of AMD.
The difference from Vitalux Advanced sits in the zeaxanthin: 250mcg per caplet against 1mg. Everything else matches. This is the older AREDS-S specification and carries its own NPN.
Both carotenoids form macular pigment, the yellow filter absorbing short-wavelength blue light. Zeaxanthin concentrates most densely at the very centre of the macula, so the lower amount is a genuine formulation difference rather than a rounding.
Zinc is paired with copper because sustained zinc supplementation depletes it. The label states this explicitly — speak to a practitioner if unsure of your copper intake. No beta-carotene.
Do not crush the caplets. Take with a meal containing oil or fat. This product has come into contact with fish ingredients.
