Amla berry, or Amalaki commonly known as β€œIndian Gooseberry,” is a small, greenish fruit with a tart, sour taste. It is a source of whole food Vitamin C and Fiber. One teaspoon of powder provides 42 mg of whole food Vitamin C. Cultivated in India for thousands of years, the fruit has been used in Traditional Ayurvedic Medicine as rejuvenating tonic beneficial for balancing the body and for aiding daily, gentle cleansing and detoxification. It is one of the ingredients in Triphala, Ayurveda’s most common herbal formulas.

In traditional Ayurveda, Amla is sattvic in nature and is therefore a good general tonic for daily use. According to the energetic principles of Ayurveda, Amla is sour, sweet, pungent, bitter and astringent in the Rasa taste energy, cooling in action according to Virya and balancing for all doshas, particularly for Pitta constitutions in need of cooling energy. Amla berry powder has a naturally tart, citrus like taste. While it can be used as an everyday tonic, it is particularly beneficial during cold and flu season and in times of stress due to its content of whole food Vitamin C.

Take 1-3 teaspoons of Organic Traditions Amla Powder as a daily tonic. Add Organic Traditions Amla powder to water, coconut water, your favorite juice or to smoothies. Mix the powder with yogurt or fresh berries or make delicious, healthy raw desserts. Add 1-3 teaspoons of Organic Traditions Amla powder to your favorite smoothie recipe to create a nourishing, antioxidant rich smoothie. According to Traditional Ayurveda it is suggested to take 1 teaspoon twice daily in warm water as a supportive tonic

    Great in savoury food!

I love it! It makes my skin heal faster I've noticed. It's packed with antioxidants. It actually has 1.5 X the antioxidants as a half cup of blueberries. I know this because I'm smart, not because I'm being payed to say it. ;)

It goes good in savoury dishes. You can bake with it, but the longer it is heated the more antioxidants it will lose. I like to add it to dishes after they've done cooking. It's got a great sour/bitter taste, so it works well in stuff you would add lemon to. Mixing it with avacado will make almost a cheesy flavour.

    Great for hair!

I add it to my smoothies for both extra vitamin C intake, although I have tried it as a hair cleanser, and it works wonderfully. I mixed it with Bhiringaraj, and Brahmi to make a paste, I added a bit of Beiruti oil to the paste, leave in hair for 30 minutes, then rinse out well. Cleans the hair beautifully and adds amazing conditioning!
