Why It Works

➕ How does senna work?
Senna leaves contain sennosides, which are activated by gut bacteria in the colon. They stimulate the bowel muscles and draw water in, which is why the effect takes 6 to 12 hours.
➕ Why add fennel and coriander?
Fennel and coriander seeds are carminatives, traditionally used to ease gas and cramping, which helps make a senna tea more comfortable.
➕ What is buckthorn bark?
Frangula (alder buckthorn) bark contains anthraquinones similar to senna's, and has a long history in European herbal medicine as a gentle stimulant laxative.

Frequently Asked Questions

Product Information

➕ Why is it sold as a case of 6?
This tea is sold here in cases of 6 boxes, 120 tea bags in all, which works out to about $8.99 a box.
➕ How long does a case last?
Used 2 to 3 times a week, 120 bags last most of a year.
➕ How is this different from Laxative Extra?
This version uses senna leaf alone. Laxative Extra adds a standardised senna extract for a stronger dose.
➕ How often can I use it?
Two to three times a week, up to once a day if needed. See a health care practitioner for use beyond 7 days.

Benefits of Ingredients

➕ Why cherry stems and meadowsweet?
Cherry stems are a traditional mild diuretic, and meadowsweet is a soothing herb for the stomach. Both round out the formula.
➕ What does roasted dandelion root do?
Dandelion root is a bitter herb traditionally used to stimulate bile flow, which helps the body digest fats. Roasting gives it a toasty, coffee-like flavour.
➕ Why take it at bedtime?
Senna takes 6 to 12 hours to work, so a bedtime cup usually means relief in the morning.

Usage and Storage

➕ Can I drink it iced?
Yes. Steep a bag in half a cup of boiling water for the full time, then pour it over ice.
➕ Can I sweeten it?
Yes. A little honey or a squeeze of lemon does not affect the herbs.
➕ How should I store it?
Keep the boxes closed in a cool, dry place, away from humidity and strong odours.
