Green tea extract is a concentrated source of the antioxidants found in green tea — chiefly catechins like EGCG — without drinking cup after cup. It’s one of the most popular plant antioxidants, taken for everyday antioxidant support, and it naturally contains some caffeine for a gentle lift. You’ll find standardized extract capsules here (often 50% to 95% EGCG), decaffeinated options, liquid tinctures, and green tea itself. It’s part of our wider range of antioxidant supplements.

    What green tea extract is

Green tea extract is green tea in concentrated form — the leaves processed to capture a high level of their natural compounds, especially the catechins. The best known of these is EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate), a potent antioxidant. Taking the extract is a way to get a consistent, concentrated amount of those antioxidants without brewing and drinking several cups a day.

    EGCG and standardization

EGCG is the catechin most green tea extracts are measured by, and products are often standardized to a percentage — commonly anywhere from 50% up to 95% EGCG or total catechins. A higher percentage means more of the active compound per capsule. Checking the label for the standardized EGCG or catechin content is the best way to compare one product to another.

    Caffeine and decaf options

Green tea naturally contains caffeine, and many extracts retain some, which gives a mild, gentle lift. If you're sensitive to stimulants or take it later in the day, look for decaffeinated or low-caffeine versions — several are available here. As with any caffeine source, it's worth not stacking it with other stimulants.

Extract vs. green tea vs. matcha

This collection spans the range. Extract capsules deliver the most concentrated, consistent dose of catechins; brewed green tea and tea bags are the traditional way to enjoy it; and matcha is powdered whole green tea leaf. They're all green tea — the difference is concentration and how you prefer to take it.

    Green tea extract in Canada

Green tea extract sold in Canada carries a Natural Product Number (NPN) from Health Canada and ships from our Ontario warehouse to addresses across Canada.

    Safety and side effects

Green tea extract is generally well tolerated. It's best taken with food — concentrated EGCG on an empty stomach has, in rare cases, been linked to liver issues, so following the label and not exceeding the dose matters. Those sensitive to caffeine should choose decaf, and anyone pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking medication should check with a healthcare provider first.
