Bovine collagen is collagen sourced from cattle — a rich source of type I and III collagen, the two types most abundant in skin, hair, nails, bones, and connective tissue. Most bovine collagen is hydrolyzed into peptides (broken into smaller pieces that mix and digest easily), and it’s typically flavourless, so it stirs into coffee, smoothies, or soup without changing the taste. You’ll find it here as grass-fed powders and capsules. It’s one of several types in our full range of collagen supplements.

What bovine collagen is

Bovine collagen is collagen sourced from cattle. It's especially rich in type I and type III collagen — the two types most abundant in skin, hair, nails, bones, and connective tissue — which is why it supports those structures. Most bovine collagen is hydrolyzed into peptides, meaning it's broken into smaller pieces that mix smoothly and digest easily. It's typically flavourless, so it dissolves into coffee, smoothies, or soup without changing the taste.

Bovine vs. marine collagen

Both are good sources of type I collagen. Bovine adds type III, which is found alongside type I in skin and connective tissue, while marine collagen is sourced from fish (a fit for pescatarians) and has smaller peptides. Neither is "better" — it comes down to source preference and which types you're after. You can compare all options on our collagen supplements page.

Powder vs. capsules

Powder is the most common form: a scoop stirs into hot or cold liquid and makes it easy to take the larger amounts collagen is usually used at. Capsules are the grab-and-go option in smaller doses. You'll also see gelatin here, which is collagen that hasn't been hydrolyzed — it gels when cooled, so it's used for cooking rather than mixing into drinks.

How to use bovine collagen

Stir a scoop into any hot or cold liquid — coffee, water, a smoothie. Some powders add vitamin C, which the body uses in its own collagen production. As with most things, consistency over time matters more than any single dose.
