What are probiotics?
There are billions of bacteria living in the intestinal tract often referred to as "microflora." Probiotics are live “friendly” bacteria found in the microflora working to keep a healthy intestinal balance by replenishing and maintaining beneficial strains. Maintaining this balance is critical for overall good health and why probiotics can provide so much benefit.
Why supplement with probiotics?
Healthy and beneficial bacteria can be depleted in a variety of ways and as a result, probiotics are an optimal way to replenish healthy bacteria as maintaining bacterial balance in the intestine promotes healthy gastrointestinal function among other things. Below is a list that can reduce the amount of healthy bacteria in your body can include:
- Antibiotic or other medication use
- Dietary changes or poor diet
Who can take probiotics?
Daily probiotic supplements are considered a necessary component of any healthy diet. Probiotics supports the health of:
While probiotics may be added in foods such as yogurt and smoothies, direct probiotic supplementation provides the highest amount of beneficial live and active cultures. Probiotics should be a routine part of a daily lifestyle to help maintain optimal health conditions.
If certain probiotics are supposed to be refrigerated, how are they shipped to maintain full potency?
The best quality probiotics are formulated to be shelf stable with a variety of measures taken to ensure stability at room temperature. However, it is definitely recommended that you do refrigerate after purchase. Going 2 weeks without refrigeration is not an issue for most probiotics. (which makes them ideal for travel as well!)
Probiotics that recommend refrigeration are being store in cold temperatures and immediately once they arrive at the Vitamart warehouse they again are put in the fridge.
Do not be concerned with the travel time between the manufacturers warehouse and the Vitamart warehouse, or the time between our warehouse and your home. Your probiotic is manufactured to withstand being at room temperature for days at a time.
