Platinum Vitamin D Details
Platinum Vitamin D3 provides you 1,000 IUs of vitamin D that is free of additives, and is made with Omega Suspension Technology (OST®) for greater absorption. After all, you are what you absorb!
A new dawn has risen for the once neglected sunshine vitamin. Vitamin D has received widespread news media coverage due to its many health benefits recently coming to light. Studies have shown that adequate levels of vitamin D helps to reduce the incidences of certain cancers, can improve your immune system, help increase bone mineral density, and prevent or even reverse heart disease.
Forms of Vitamin D
Vitamin D is one of the fat soluble vitamins along with E, A, and K. It is also known as a prohormone because of its role in forming calcitriol, the hormone responsible for calcium absorption and utilization. Vitamin D2 was discovered in 1936 and is synthesized in plants while vitamin D3 was produced a few years later and is the form found in humans.
Are we getting enough of the sunshine vitamin?
Getting enough vitamin D is a challenge especially in northern climates. Evolution has given us the ability to produce vitamin D naturally within our body. It can be made just under your skin with proper exposure to sunlight. Adequate amounts of vitamin D3 can be made in the skin after only ten to fifteen minutes of sun exposure at least two times per week to the face, arms, hands, or back without sunscreen, however, season, geographic latitude, time of day, cloud cover, skin cover, skin colour, smog, and sunscreen affect UV ray absorption and vitamin D synthesis. For example, sunlight exposure from November through February in Toronto is insufficient to produce significant vitamin D synthesis in the skin. The UV rating must be above 3 for sunlight to be effective in producing vitamin D in our skin.
