Naka Platinum Heme Iron 11mg Details
Naka Platinum Heme Iron 11mg supplies 11mg of elemental iron per capsule as heme iron polypeptide from bovine hemoglobin — BSE free and hormone free. That form is the whole point: heme iron is the iron found in blood and muscle tissue, absorbed by a completely different route than the iron salts in conventional supplements. Naka describes the formula as using both hemoglobin and myoglobin proteins and calls the iron European certified elemental iron.
It is not iron alone. Each capsule also carries 333mcg of methylfolate, 333mcg of methylcobalamin B12, 100mg of vitamin C and 66.7mcg of selenium — the nutrients that work alongside iron in red blood cell formation and absorption. Naka positions it to support healthy iron levels, optimize red blood cell functioning and combat signs of fatigue. Made in Canada, 60 capsules.

Who Heme Iron Is For
- Anyone who tried ferrous sulphate, fumarate or gluconate and quit because of the stomach upset and constipation
- People working on low iron who want the form the body absorbs most readily, not the highest milligram number
- Those who want the supporting cast in one capsule — active folate, methylated B12, vitamin C and selenium instead of four bottles
- Anyone already taking methylated B vitamins — the folate here is L-5-MTHF, not folic acid
- Buyers who read the iron line carefully and want to know the 11mg is elemental iron
- People looking for a modest daily dose they can take one to three times a day
Who this product is NOT for: If you avoid animal-derived ingredients, this is the wrong product outright — the iron comes from bovine hemoglobin and the capsule shell is bovine gelatin. Naka Platinum Ultra Iron 25mg is the gentle non-heme alternative in a vegetable capsule, and our full bisglycinate range covers that ground. If you need a high single dose, 11mg is a maintenance amount and a 25mg bisglycinate gets you there faster. If swallowing capsules is the problem, a liquid iron is the better format.
Vitamart's Take
We stock this because heme iron solves a real problem that no amount of dose-raising fixes. Iron supplements have a poor reputation not because they do not work — it is that most people cannot stay on them, because unabsorbed iron salt in the gut causes nausea, cramping and constipation. Heme iron is absorbed by an entirely different mechanism, and in practice people tolerate it when they could not tolerate ferrous anything. Adding active folate, methylcobalamin and vitamin C alongside it is sensible formulating rather than label decoration.
Two honest trade-offs. The dose: 11mg of elemental iron is modest next to a 25mg bisglycinate or a 65mg ferrous sulphate tablet, which is why the label allows one to three capsules a day. And the cost: heme iron is a far more expensive raw material than an iron salt, so the cost per milligram is high. What you are paying for is absorption and tolerability. If you can take ferrous sulphate without trouble, buy the salt. If you have failed on conventional iron before, this is the one that tends to work.
How Heme Iron Compares
Iron is one of the few places where the form on the label matters more than the milligram number, because the two forms are absorbed by completely different pathways.
- Versus iron bisglycinate: Naka Platinum Ultra Iron 25mg is the gentlest non-heme form, chelated to glycine, more than double the elemental iron per capsule, 120 count.
- Versus ferrous sulphate and fumarate: Those salts cost far less per milligram and carry high elemental iron, but are the forms most associated with digestive complaints.
- Versus an iron blend: Naka Platinum IronMax 150mg takes a different approach to red blood cell formation, 30 vegetable capsules.
- Versus a prenatal: Naka Platinum Essential Prenatal combines methylfolate and iron bisglycinate inside a multivitamin.
What Is Heme Iron?
Dietary iron comes in two chemically distinct forms, and your body has a separate absorption system for each. Non-heme iron is the mineral-salt iron found in plants and in nearly every iron supplement — ferrous sulphate, fumarate, gluconate, bisglycinate. To absorb it, your gut must reduce it from the ferric to the ferrous state and move it across the intestinal wall through a divalent metal transporter, a pathway heavily affected by what else is in your stomach. Phytates in grains, polyphenols in tea and coffee, and calcium all compete with it, and whatever is not absorbed continues through the intestine — the cause of the stomach upset iron supplements are known for.
Heme iron is different. It is the iron already bound inside a porphyrin ring at the centre of hemoglobin and myoglobin — the proteins that carry oxygen in blood and muscle. Because the iron arrives pre-packaged inside that protein structure, the intestine absorbs the whole heme unit through its own dedicated route and releases the iron inside the cell. That pathway is far less affected by the dietary inhibitors that interfere with iron salts, and much less unabsorbed iron is left behind — which is why 11mg of heme iron is not directly comparable to 11mg from a salt.
How To Use
Adults take 1 capsule 1–3 times per day or as directed by a health care practitioner. Take a few hours before or after taking other medications or natural health products. Take with food.
