Carlson Norwegian Cod Liver Oil Liquid Details
Carlson Norwegian Cod Liver Oil is premium-quality liquid cod liver oil sourced from wild Atlantic cod harvested from the deep cold waters off Norway. Each teaspoon delivers 900 mg of omega-3 fatty acids (400 mg EPA + 500 mg DHA) plus naturally occurring vitamins A and D3 — a traditional whole-food source of these fat-soluble vitamins. Triglyceride (TG) form for natural absorption. Lemon flavoured. Chemical-free extraction. Third-party tested for freshness, potency, and contaminants. One of the most respected cod liver oils in North America.

Who Carlson Norwegian Cod Liver Oil Is For
- Adults wanting omega-3 plus naturally occurring vitamins A and D in one whole-food supplement
- Canadians wanting daily natural vitamin D — cod liver oil has been the traditional vitamin D source for centuries
- People who prefer liquid omega-3 over softgels (more accurate dosing, larger doses with less fuss)
- Adults focused on cardiovascular, cognitive, immune, and eye health
- Anyone who's tried fishy cod liver oils and given up — Carlson's natural lemon flavouring and freshness practices make this one of the most palatable cod liver oils available
- Customers wanting a long-trusted heritage brand (Carlson has been making cod liver oil since 1965)
Who this product is NOT for: Pregnant women should talk to their healthcare practitioner before taking liver-derived supplements due to vitamin A content. If you take blood-thinning medications, consult your practitioner first. Vegans and vegetarians — this is fish-derived. If you don't want vitamin A and D and just want concentrated omega-3, a pure fish oil like Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega is a better fit.
Vitamart's Take
Cod liver oil is one of the oldest natural sources of omega-3, vitamin A, and vitamin D in one product — the way fish actually contain them. One teaspoon delivers 900 mg of EPA + DHA, 400 IU of vitamin D, and 850 IU of vitamin A. Carlson has been making this from wild Atlantic cod since 1965, with chemical-free extraction and a natural lemon flavour that makes it genuinely drinkable.
How Carlson Norwegian Cod Liver Oil Compares
Carlson Norwegian vs Naka Platinum Icelandic Cod Liver Oil
Carlson Norwegian (this product): 5 g cod liver oil per teaspoon, 900 mg omega-3 (400 EPA + 500 DHA), 850 IU vitamin A, 400 IU vitamin D3. Norwegian source. Long-established heritage brand.
Naka Platinum Icelandic: 4,000 mg cod liver oil per teaspoon, 760 mg omega-3 (360 EPA + 400 DHA), 4,500 IU vitamin A, 450 IU vitamin D. Icelandic source. Higher vitamin A content. Different fishing waters.
Cod Liver Oil vs Pure Fish Oil
Cod Liver Oil (this product): Includes naturally occurring vitamins A and D3 alongside omega-3 — the traditional whole-food approach. Typically lower omega-3 per teaspoon than concentrated fish oils.
Pure Fish Oil (like Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega): Concentrated omega-3 only — no vitamins A or D. Higher EPA + DHA per dose. A different approach: get your vitamin D from a dedicated D3 supplement.
Liquid vs Softgel Cod Liver Oil
Liquid (this product): Larger doses with one spoonful instead of 4-6 softgels. More cost-effective per mg. Some people find the lemon flavour pleasant.
Softgel Cod Liver Oil: No taste, easy to travel with. Smaller doses per softgel. A fit if you can't handle liquid fish oil even with lemon flavouring.
Fish Oil Forms: A Quick Guide
You'll see three abbreviations on fish oil labels. Here's what each means:
- TG (Triglyceride) — this product: The natural form omega-3s exist in inside fish. Well absorbed (around 70%). Common in liquid fish oils and premium cod liver oils.
- EE (Ethyl Ester): A processed form that allows higher concentration but is less absorbed (around 30-40%). Common in concentrated fish oils. If the label doesn't say "TG" or "rTG," it's likely EE.
- rTG (Re-Esterified Triglyceride): Processed for high concentration, then converted back to triglyceride for absorption. The best of both — high concentration AND well absorbed. Common in premium concentrated fish oils.
What to look for: "TG form" or "rTG form" on the label, plus a third-party purity certification.
How To Use
Adults: Take 1 teaspoon daily with food, or as directed by your healthcare practitioner. Taking with a meal containing fat improves absorption of the omega-3s and fat-soluble vitamins A and D.
Refrigerate after opening to maintain freshness. Use within 90 days of opening for best quality. Talk to a healthcare practitioner before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding (vitamin A intake during pregnancy needs careful management), take blood-thinning medications, are scheduled for surgery, or have a medical condition.
