Who Carlson Maximum Omega Is For

      • Adults focused on cardiovascular wellness who want a high-EPA omega-3 — EPA is the omega-3 most studied for heart support
      • People wanting mood and emotional wellness support — research generally supports high-EPA ratios here
      • Anyone looking for healthy inflammatory balance support, including active adults and people with joint concerns
      • Adults who want a concentrated dose in fewer softgels (2,000 mg in 2 softgels vs 6-8 of basic fish oil)
      • People wanting IFOS-certified pharmaceutical-grade purity standards — third-party tested for heavy metals, PCBs, and oxidation
      • Anyone who's tried fishy basic fish oils and found them unpleasant — lemon flavour and high quality minimize fishy aftertaste

Who this product is NOT for: If your main goal is brain support or pregnancy nutrition, a more balanced or high-DHA fish oil is the better fit — see Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega (balanced 1.4:1 ratio) or a dedicated high-DHA product. If you want naturally occurring vitamins A and D alongside omega-3, cod liver oil is a different category — see Carlson Norwegian Cod Liver Oil. If you take blood-thinning medications, consult your practitioner before using concentrated fish oil.

      Vitamart's Take

Maximum Omega 2000 is Carlson's most concentrated fish oil and one of the higher-EPA omega-3s in our shelves. The 2.5:1 EPA-to-DHA ratio is intentional — EPA is the omega-3 most associated with cardiovascular wellness, mood support, and healthy inflammatory response. The IFOS 5-star certification is the most rigorous third-party fish oil rating, with public batch-by-batch reports verifying contamination levels and label accuracy. Premium-priced because of the concentration, certifications, and Norwegian sourcing.

      How Carlson Maximum Omega Compares

Carlson Maximum Omega vs Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega

Carlson Maximum Omega (this product): 2,000 mg omega-3 per serving (1,250 EPA + 500 DHA). High-EPA 2.5:1 ratio. IFOS Certified. rTG form.
Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega: 1,280 mg omega-3 per serving (650 EPA + 450 DHA). Balanced 1.4:1 ratio. Third-party tested. Triglyceride form. Different ratio for different goals.

Carlson Maximum Omega vs NFH Trident SAP 66:33

Carlson Maximum Omega: Consumer-grade high-EPA omega-3. Doesn't require practitioner recommendation. 1,250 mg EPA per serving.
NFH Trident SAP 66:33: Practitioner-grade high-EPA. Requires practitioner recommendation. 660 mg EPA per softgel (single softgel). Different brand positioning for different shopper profiles.

Carlson Maximum Omega vs Carlson Norwegian Cod Liver Oil

Carlson Maximum Omega: Concentrated pure omega-3 — no vitamins A or D. Higher EPA content. Focused on cardiovascular and inflammatory support.
Carlson Norwegian Cod Liver Oil: Lower omega-3 concentration but includes naturally occurring vitamins A and D. Different category — traditional whole-food approach.

Fish Oil Forms: A Quick Guide

You'll see three abbreviations on fish oil labels. Here's what each means:

      • TG (Triglyceride): The natural form omega-3s exist in inside fish. Well absorbed (around 70%). Common in liquid fish oils and premium cod liver oils.
      • EE (Ethyl Ester): A processed form that allows higher concentration but is less absorbed (around 30-40%). Common in concentrated fish oils. If the label doesn't say "TG" or "rTG," it's likely EE.
      • rTG (Re-Esterified Triglyceride) — this product: Processed for high concentration, then converted back to triglyceride for absorption. The best of both — high concentration AND well absorbed. Common in premium concentrated fish oils.

What to look for: "TG form" or "rTG form" on the label, plus a third-party purity certification like IFOS.

      How To Use

Adults: Take 2 softgels daily with food, or as directed by your healthcare practitioner. Taking with a meal containing some fat improves absorption since omega-3s are fat-soluble.

Talk to a healthcare practitioner before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, take blood-thinning medications (especially warfarin or aspirin), are scheduled for surgery, or have a medical condition. Fish oil has mild blood-thinning effects.

      Frequently Asked Questions

What does the 2.5:1 EPA:DHA ratio mean?
It means there's 2.5 times more EPA than DHA in the formula — 1,250 mg EPA to 500 mg DHA. Higher EPA ratios are typically chosen for cardiovascular wellness, mood support, and inflammatory response. Balanced or higher-DHA ratios are typically chosen for brain support and pregnancy nutrition.
      What's IFOS certification?
IFOS (International Fish Oil Standards) is the most rigorous third-party fish oil certification program. It tests every batch for omega-3 content accuracy, heavy metals (mercury, lead, cadmium), PCBs, dioxins, and oxidation (rancidity). IFOS publishes batch-by-batch reports publicly. Carlson Maximum Omega earns the top 5-star IFOS rating.
Why does it cost more than basic fish oil?
Higher concentration per softgel (you get the same omega-3 from 2 softgels that would take 6-8 softgels of basic fish oil), rTG form for better absorption, IFOS certification with public batch reports, and Norwegian sourcing. Per mg of EPA+DHA, it often works out comparable to basic fish oil but with much better quality.
      Will it cause fishy burps?
Much less than basic fish oil. The combination of IFOS-tested freshness, rTG form, and natural lemon flavouring minimizes fishy aftertaste.
Can I take it with blood thinners?
Fish oil has mild blood-thinning effects, especially at high doses. Talk to your healthcare practitioner before combining with warfarin, aspirin, or other blood-thinning medications. Some practitioners are fine with this; others will adjust dosing or recommend a different product.
Should I take it morning or evening?
Either works. Take it with a meal containing some fat for best absorption (omega-3s are fat-soluble). Some people prefer evening to minimize any chance of fishy aftertaste during the day.
