A Note From Our Founder

I didn't set out to build a vitamin company. I set out to fix a terrible online shopping experience.

It was the early 2000s. I was finishing my business degree in Edmonton, obsessed with fitness and supplements, and excited about this new thing called the internet. I ordered vitamins from one of the few online health stores that existed at the time. Three weeks later, the package finally arrived — wrong products, one item missing entirely. And I found out the warehouse was 30 minutes from my house.

I remember thinking: I could do better than this.

So in 2005, with my life savings of $10,000, I launched BuffMuscleStuff.com out of the basement of my 500 square foot townhouse. I built shelves out of cardboard boxes and cinder blocks. I drove orders to Canada Post on my lunch break. I shipped over 10,000 orders out of that basement before I hired a single person to help me.

It wasn't glamorous. The basement flooded once and took out my entire inventory system — which was just shelves made of soggy cardboard. A scammer in Singapore nearly wiped out everything I had built with a $10,000 fraudulent order. I almost quit that day. My dad showed up, sat me down, and said absolutely not. We called the police. Somehow — against every reasonable expectation — the goods were intercepted and returned. I got my money back. We lived to fight another day.

That's the moment I knew this business was worth fighting for.

We changed the name to LivePureHealth.ca in 2008 as the focus shifted to everyday wellness. Then to Vitamart.ca in 2010 — short, easy to spell, and said exactly what we were. Twenty years and over one million orders later, the founding belief hasn't changed: every Canadian deserves access to quality vitamins at a fair price, delivered with the kind of service that makes you want to tell a friend.
