    About Stay Wyld Organics

Stay Wyld Organics works in single-species mushrooms rather than blends, with one multi-mushroom formula alongside them. Each species is sold as both a capsule and a loose powder, which is the main choice to make: capsules for a set amount, powder for stirring into coffee or a smoothie. The chaga is wild-harvested in Canada.

    The five species

Lion's mane (Hericium erinaceus) is the shaggy white one. Chaga (Inonotus obliquus) grows on birch and is wild-harvested rather than cultivated. Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum) is the hard, glossy bracket fungus. Cordyceps is the odd one — a fungus that in the wild grows from insects, though what's sold is cultivated on plant substrate. Turkey tail (Trametes versicolor) is the banded shelf fungus. The blended formula brings several together in one capsule; see our mushroom blend range for comparable options.

    Fruiting body and mycelium

This is the distinction that matters most when comparing mushroom supplements, and the one labels are least clear about. The fruiting body is the mushroom you'd recognise — the part above ground. Mycelium is the root-like network it grows from. Products vary in which they use and in what proportion, and some mycelium products are grown on grain and milled together with it, which changes what's actually in the capsule. Stay Wyld's labels state the blend. It's worth reading that line on any brand you compare.

    Capsules or powder

Capsules give a set amount per serving and no taste. Powder lets you adjust the amount and stir it into coffee, a smoothie or food — and mushroom powder does taste of mushroom, which some people like more than others. Neither is stronger by default; compare the amount per serving on the label.
