Manuka Honey

Understanding UMF and MGO grades

Manuka honey is rated by two grading systems you'll see on the jar:

• MGO — measures methylglyoxal (the compound unique to Manuka) in mg/kg. Higher MGO means more concentrated. You'll see numbers from MGO 30+ up to MGO 573+.
• UMF — the Unique Manuka Factor, a quality-and-grading mark that roughly tracks with MGO (for example, UMF 10+ ≈ MGO 263+, and UMF 15+ ≈ MGO 514+).

Higher grades are stronger in flavour and more concentrated, and priced accordingly; lower grades and blends (MGO 30+) are milder and good for everyday use. There's no need to chase the highest number unless you specifically want it — pick the grade that suits how you'll use it.

• Everyday blends — MGO 30+ Manuka blends; mild and versatile.
• Mid-grade jars — around MGO 100+ to 400+ / UMF 5+ to 13+; the most popular for daily use.
• High-grade jars — MGO 500+ / UMF 15+ and up; strongest flavour and most concentrated.
• Manuka skincare — day creams, eye creams, masks, and a Manuka + vitamin C cleanser.
• Manuka teas — herbal blends with chamomile or lemon-ginger.

Manuka honey in Canada

The Manuka honey we carry is genuine New Zealand Manuka, graded by UMF/MGO, and ships from our Ontario warehouse to addresses across Canada.

A note on Manuka honey

Manuka is a food — enjoyed by the spoonful, in tea, or on toast. Like all honey, it should not be given to infants under one year old because of the risk of infant botulism. And because it's still a honey, it counts as a sugar if you're watching your intake.
