About eyebright

Eyebright is Euphrasia officinalis, a low-growing flowering plant found in meadows across Europe. It's a semi-parasitic herb — it draws part of its nutrition from the roots of neighbouring grasses — and it has a long history in traditional Western herbalism, which is where the English name comes from. The aerial parts of the plant are what's used.

Capsules, liquid extract and drops

There are three formats. Capsules contain the dried herb, typically around 400mg each, and are the simplest way to take a set amount. A liquid extract is the herb drawn out into an alcohol or glycerine base, taken in drops, which suits people who want to adjust the amount or dislike capsules. Separately, eyebright appears as an ingredient in some eye-drop products — these are applied to the eye rather than swallowed, so they're a different thing from taking the herb internally, and they're formulated and licensed on their own terms.
