Aloe vera is one of the most versatile plants in natural health — used both on the skin and taken internally. Topically, pure aloe gel is a go-to for soothing and hydrating skin. Taken internally as a juice or capsule, aloe is traditionally used to support digestion and gut comfort. You’ll find both sides here: aloe gels and skin products, alongside aloe vera juices, capsules, and powders. The plant’s inner gel is the gentle part most products use.

    Aloe for skin

The most popular use is topical. Pure aloe gel is a long-standing go-to for soothing and hydrating skin — cooling, light, and easily absorbed. When choosing a skin gel, look for a high percentage of aloe and minimal additives. The range here includes pure aloe gels and moisturizers, along with aloe-based creams, body washes, and shampoos.

    Aloe for digestion

Taken internally as a juice or capsule, aloe vera is traditionally used to soothe the digestive tract and support gut comfort — some people use it for occasional bloating or stomach upset. The inner-leaf gel is the gentle part used for this. It's support for everyday digestive comfort rather than a treatment for any condition.

    Inner leaf vs. whole leaf

This distinction matters for internal use. Inner-leaf gel is the mild, soothing part of the plant. Whole-leaf products also contain aloe latex (from just under the skin of the leaf), which has a strong laxative effect — so whole-leaf aloe taken internally is meant for short-term use, not as a daily habit.

Forms: gel, juice, capsules, and powder

Topical aloe comes as gels and creams for the skin. Internal aloe comes as juices, capsules, and powders. The key thing: these aren't interchangeable — a cosmetic skin gel isn't meant to be swallowed, and a drinkable aloe juice is formulated differently. Check that a product is intended for the use you have in mind.

    Aloe vera in Canada

Aloe vera supplements for internal use sold in Canada carry a Natural Product Number (NPN) from Health Canada, and all orders ship from our Ontario warehouse to addresses across Canada.

    A note on aloe vera

For internal use, inner-leaf aloe is the gentle choice; whole-leaf and aloe-latex products are laxative and meant for short-term use only. Pregnant women should avoid taking aloe internally. Topical gels are for external use — don't drink a cosmetic gel. If you have a medical condition or take medication, check with your healthcare provider before using aloe internally.
