Naka Platinum Topical Vegan Vitamin C Advanced Anti-Aging Serum Details

Naka Platinum Topical Vegan Vitamin C Advanced Anti-Aging Serum is formulated with 20% vitamin C plus hyaluronic acid and vitamin E. It is used to help support the production of collagen and elastin, and it also helps prevent the skin discolouration that often occurs as we age. The vitamin C here is sodium ascorbyl phosphate — a stabilised form rather than raw ascorbic acid.

Naka describes the formula as reducing wrinkles and the appearance of under-eye circles, promoting collagen production, helping prevent skin sagging, protecting against sun damage and brightening; the vitamin E in it is credited with working on aging, wrinkles and acne scarring. Aloe vera leaf juice, rosehip seed oil and sacha inchi oil round out the base, with neroli, ylang ylang and lavender essential oils for scent. Vegan, gluten free and made in Canada.

Who This Vitamin C Serum Is For

  • Anyone adding a dedicated serum step rather than relying on a moisturizer that happens to contain vitamin C
  • People working on uneven tone or the discolouration that shows up with age — brightening is the formula's stated purpose
  • Under-eye circles and early sagging, the two things Naka names first
  • Anyone who wants a plant-based, vegan skincare step with the ingredient list printed in full
  • Those who already use a cream and want something that goes under it, not instead of it
  • People who have tried an ascorbic acid serum and found it unstable or harsh

Who this product is NOT for: this is a cosmetic serum, not a moisturizer — the directions have you let it dry and then apply your moisturizer, so you still need one. For a single product doing both jobs, Naka Platinum Collagen+ Face Cream carries vitamin C, retinol and hyaluronic acid in a cream base. If you want fragrance-free skincare, note the neroli, ylang ylang and lavender essential oils here and consider Naka's fragrance-free Vitamin E Skin Oil instead.

Vitamart's Take

Twenty percent is a high number for a vitamin C serum, and the form Naka chose is what makes it workable. Sodium ascorbyl phosphate is a stabilised vitamin C derivative: it does not brown in the bottle the way an ascorbic acid serum does, and it is gentler on skin that finds straight ascorbic acid stinging. That combination — high stated percentage, stable form — is the reason we keep it on the shelf over the many 10% serums that oxidise before you finish them.

The honest trade-off is that a derivative has to be converted by the skin before it acts as vitamin C, so a stabilised form is a different proposition from fresh ascorbic acid, not simply a better one. You trade some immediacy for a serum that still works in month three. The other thing worth saying plainly: this is a cosmetic. It is a well-built brightening and anti-aging step that goes under your moisturizer, and the botanicals and essential oils mean it has a noticeable scent. If you want unscented, this is not it.

How This Vitamin C Serum Compares

Vitamin C serums differ on three things: the percentage, the form of vitamin C, and what else is in the bottle.

  • Versus a typical 10% serum: this states 20%, with hyaluronic acid and vitamin E alongside it rather than vitamin C alone.
  • Versus an ascorbic acid serum: ascorbic acid is the most direct form and the least stable — it browns and loses strength. Sodium ascorbyl phosphate holds up far better in the bottle and is easier on reactive skin.
  • Versus Naka Platinum Collagen+ Face Cream: the cream carries vitamin C among four actives in a moisturizing base. This is the concentrated single-focus step that goes underneath it. Many people use both.
  • Versus a facial oil: an oil like rosehip is lipid-based and seals. This is water-based and goes on first.

Why Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate Rather Than Ascorbic Acid?

Vitamin C is chemically fragile. Ascorbic acid, the form in an orange, works by giving up electrons — which is exactly what makes it an antioxidant and exactly why it degrades in a bottle. Exposed to water, light, warmth and air, it oxidises to dehydroascorbic acid and then further, turning a serum yellow then brown and losing potency as it goes. That is the familiar story of a vitamin C serum bought in January and useless by March.

Sodium ascorbyl phosphate solves that by capping the reactive site: a phosphate group is attached to the part of the molecule that would otherwise give up its electrons, and the sodium salt keeps the whole thing water-soluble and close to skin-neutral in pH rather than sharply acidic. In the bottle it is stable; on the skin, enzymes cleave the phosphate off and release ascorbic acid where it is wanted. The consequences are the ones a buyer cares about: it keeps, it does not sting, and it can be formulated at 20% alongside hyaluronic acid holding water in the upper layers and vitamin E as a fat-soluble antioxidant partner.

How To Use

Massage a small amount evenly over freshly washed face, neck and décolletage areas and wait to dry before applying moisturizer. Use in the morning and at night before bed. Shake gently before use. For external use only. Do not use on broken and damaged skin. Avoid contact with eyes. If irritation or rash develops, discontinue use.

Frequently Asked Questions

➕ Will this serum go brown in the bottle?
Far less readily than an ascorbic acid serum. The vitamin C here is sodium ascorbyl phosphate, which has its reactive site capped — that is the main reason the form is used.
➕ Does it replace my moisturizer?
No. The directions say to let it dry and then apply moisturizer, so it is a step before your cream rather than a substitute for it.
➕ Can I use it with the Naka Collagen+ Face Cream?
Yes, and that is the usual pairing — serum first, cream over it. The cream already contains vitamin C, so think of this as the concentrated version of that step.
➕ Is it scented?
Yes. The formula includes orange blossom (neroli), ylang ylang and lavender essential oils, plus rosehip seed and sacha inchi oils. If you want unscented skincare, choose something fragrance-free.
➕ Morning, night, or both?
Both. Naka's directions are to use it in the morning and again at night before bed.
➕ Why does it need shaking?
It carries plant oils — rosehip seed and sacha inchi — in a water base, and those can separate slightly on standing. A gentle shake before use re-mixes them.
