The name is doing real work here and we want to be precise about how much. Methylcobalamin and L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate are the two forms worth paying for in a complex, because folate and B12 are the pair that sit in the middle of the body's methylation cycle — getting those two right is most of the benefit of a premium B complex. Naka put them in at serious amounts in a liquid you can pour, and the 300 mg of B5 including D-pantethine and the 1000 mcg of biotin are both generous for a complex at this level.

What the word does not mean is that every vitamin in the bottle has been upgraded. The B1 is plain thiamine hydrochloride, the B6 a blend including ordinary pyridoxine hydrochloride alongside P5P, the B3 inositol hexanicotinate — sensible, standard choices, just not methylated ones. The other thing to check is the size: 250 ml at 15 ml a day is only about 16 servings, so for daily use the 600 ml bottle is the one that makes sense.

What "Methylated" Actually Means in a B Complex

Methylation is the body's habit of moving single carbon units — methyl groups — from one molecule to another, and two B vitamins sit at the centre of that traffic. Folate carries the methyl group; B12 is the cofactor that accepts it and passes it on. Supplied as folic acid and cyanocobalamin, both have to be reworked before either can take part. Supplied as L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate and methylcobalamin, as they are here, they arrive in the form the cycle already uses.

That is why "methylated" is a claim about folate and B12 specifically rather than a description of the whole bottle, and the panel here bears that out. Riboflavin 5'-phosphate and pyridoxal 5'-phosphate are activated too, but by a different route — a phosphate group attached, not a methyl group — while thiamine hydrochloride and inositol hexanicotinate are the ordinary forms of B1 and B3. None of that is a shortcoming, since methyl groups are only part of what the other Bs do. It means the word on the label describes two of the eight, and happens to describe the two where the form matters most.
