Aiya Organic Matcha Infused Genmaicha Details

Organic Japanese Genmaicha green tea with organic ceremonial grade matcha blended in, in 10 tea bags.

Genmaicha is sencha with toasted brown rice, and the rice changes everything. It brings a warm, nutty, popcorn-like note that softens the tea considerably — historically it was a way of making tea go further, and it became loved in its own right. With matcha blended in, you get that toasted warmth with the depth and colour of ground leaf behind it.

This is the easiest way to get matcha into a cup. A normal green tea bag gives you an infusion — what steeps out of the leaf. Adding ceremonial grade matcha puts ground whole leaf in the cup alongside it, so you get the colour, the body and the umami that a bag alone cannot deliver.

Aiya cite an ORAC value of 1,384 for the matcha content — a laboratory measure of antioxidant activity.

Certified organic and kosher pareve. Ten bags.

Aiya has been family-owned since 1888 and is run today by the fifth generation of the Sugita family. They are based in Nishio, in Japan's Aichi prefecture, where matcha has been grown for over 800 years.

Who Aiya Organic Matcha Infused Genmaicha Is For

This is for anyone who wants matcha without the ritual — no bowl, no whisk, no sifting, just a bag in a cup. It also suits anyone who finds straight matcha too intense: the base tea softens it considerably while keeping the character.

Aiya make three of these bagged blends, each on a different base tea: Gyokuro for depth and sweetness, Sencha for a brisk everyday cup, and Genmaicha for toasted brown rice. Same matcha, three very different cups.

Aiya Organic Matcha Infused Genmaicha Features and Benefits

  • Organic Genmaicha Base — Organic Japanese Sencha Green Tea, Organic Genmai (Toasted Brown Rice), Organic Ceremonial Grade Matcha.
  • With Toasted Brown Rice — Warm, nutty and the most approachable of the three.
  • Ceremonial Grade Matcha Blended In — Ground whole leaf in the cup, not just an infusion.
  • No Whisk or Bowl Needed — Matcha character from an ordinary tea bag.
  • Certified Organic — Organic and kosher pareve.
  • 10 Tea Bags — From Nishio, Aichi prefecture.
  • Family Owned Since 1888 — Fifth-generation Sugita family.

Frequently Asked Questions

Product Information

➕ What is this tea?
Organic Japanese Genmaicha green tea with organic ceremonial grade matcha blended in, in 10 tea bags.
➕ How is it different from ordinary green tea?
A normal bag gives you an infusion. The added matcha puts ground whole leaf in the cup, which brings colour, body and umami a bag alone cannot.
➕ What are the other two blends?
Gyokuro for depth and sweetness, Sencha for a brisk everyday cup, and Genmaicha for toasted brown rice. Same matcha, different base tea.
➕ Do I need any equipment?
No. It brews like any tea bag.

Benefits of Ingredients

➕ What is genmaicha?
Sencha green tea blended with toasted brown rice, which brings a warm, nutty, popcorn-like note. Historically a way of making tea go further, now loved in its own right.
➕ What does the rice do to the flavour?
It softens the tea considerably and adds toasted warmth, which makes this the most approachable of the three blends.
➕ What is ORAC 1,384?
A laboratory measure of antioxidant activity that Aiya cite for the matcha content.

Usage and Storage

➕ How do I brew it?
Steep one bag in hot water below boiling. Water that is too hot will draw out bitterness.
➕ Can I add milk?
You can, though these blends are built for drinking straight where the base tea character comes through.
➕ How should I store it?
Sealed, cool and away from light.

Steep one tea bag in hot water below boiling point. Do not use fully boiling water.

Additional Ingredients

Organic Japanese Sencha Green Tea, Organic Genmai (Toasted Brown Rice), Organic Ceremonial Grade Matcha.
