Bromelain is a natural enzyme extracted from pineapple that breaks down protein, which is why it’s classed as a proteolytic digestive enzyme. It’s taken to support the digestion of protein-rich meals, and it also features in joint, recovery and seasonal formulas — often paired with quercetin. You’ll find it here mostly as 500 mg extra-strength capsules (measured in GDU for enzyme activity), plus enzyme and quercetin blends. Take it with food for digestive support, or between meals when used for other goals. Shipped across Canada from our Ontario warehouse.

    What bromelain is

Bromelain is a group of protein-digesting (proteolytic) enzymes found in the stem and fruit of pineapple. Its strength is usually shown in GDU (gelatin digesting units) per gram, which reflects enzyme activity — a 500 mg extra-strength capsule at 2400 GDU/g is a common format.

    How people use it

Taken with meals, bromelain is used to support the digestion of protein. Taken between meals, it’s a common ingredient in joint, post-exercise and seasonal formulas, and it’s frequently paired with quercetin. How you time it depends on your goal — with food for digestion, away from food for the other uses.

    Choosing a bromelain

    • Strength & activity — look at both the mg and the GDU rating; higher GDU means more enzyme activity per gram.
    • Delayed or slow release — some capsules are designed to release lower down for digestive or systemic use.
    • Blends — bromelain is often combined with quercetin, turmeric or other digestive enzymes; most capsules are vegetarian.
