Elderflower Extract is traditionally used to help relieve symptoms of upper respiratory tract infections such as colds, coughs and nasal congestion. It is also useful for fevers as a diaphoretic.
This is the formula without alcohol, and the substitute is the interesting part: apple cider vinegar rather than glycerine. Vinegar-based herbal extracts are called oxymels when honey is added, and they are an old European tradition that predates alcohol tinctures — vinegar was simply what people had.
Made with fresh elderflowers, which captures volatile compounds that drying loses. It helps in cases of fever because it acts as a diaphoretic, allowing perspiration.
