Vitamart's Take
Virafect is St. Francis's front-line formula for the moment you feel a cold or flu coming on. Andrographis leads, backed by six supporting herbs including echinacea, wild indigo and lomatium, and the label is clear about the goal: relieve symptoms like fever and sore throat and help shorten the infection. It's for short-term use, and its cautions list is longer than most, so read it before you start.
How Virafect Compares
Virafect vs. single-herb Andrographis
St. Francis Andrographis tincture is a single bitter herb with a digestive (dyspepsia) label. Virafect combines andrographis with six other herbs and is labelled for cold and flu.
Virafect vs. EchinAce Original
EchinAce Original is built on two echinacea species for colds and flu. Virafect includes echinacea but leads with andrographis and adds herbs such as wild indigo, holy basil and lomatium.
Virafect vs. Deep Immune
Deep Immune Original is an astragalus-based formula for maintaining immune defences over time. Virafect is for short-term use once symptoms start.
What Is Andrographis?
- Andrographis (Andrographis paniculata) is a bitter herb with a long history in traditional medicine across Asia
- It is used traditionally to fight viral respiratory infections
- In Virafect, the above-ground herb top is used
- It belongs to the Acanthaceae plant family, which is why the label warns people allergic to that family
- St. Francis uses organic and wildcrafted herbs in Virafect
Recommended Purpose
