Vitamart's Take
Echinacea and goldenseal are one of the most familiar herbal pairings for cold and flu season, and St. Francis keeps this version simple: two herbs, with the strength of each printed per mL. Echinacea angustifolia makes up most of the formula at 175 mg QCE per mL, with goldenseal at 60 mg QCE. It's meant to be taken when you need it — 2 mL three times a day in a little water — to help with colds, flu, infection and sore throats. If you want propolis added to the mix, EchinaSeal is the step up; if you want goldenseal alone, St. Francis makes that too.
How Echinacea Goldenseal Compares
Echinacea Goldenseal vs. EchinaSeal
EchinaSeal is St. Francis's broader infection-support formula with echinacea, goldenseal and propolis. Echinacea Goldenseal keeps to just the two herbs, which suits anyone who wants to avoid bee products.
Combination vs. Echinacea Angustifolia alone
St. Francis Echinacea Angustifolia is the single-herb echinacea tincture, positioned to shorten the duration of colds and flu. This formula adds goldenseal for sore throat and infection support.
Combination vs. Goldenseal alone
St. Francis Goldenseal on its own is positioned for digestion and mucous membranes. Choose the combination if colds, flu and sore throats are your main concern.
What Is Echinacea Angustifolia?
- Echinacea angustifolia is a purple coneflower native to the North American prairies
- The root and rhizome are the parts used in this tincture
- It is one of the most widely used herbs for colds and flu
- Here it is paired with goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis), another North American root traditionally used for the mucous membranes
- In this formula, echinacea makes up 0.7 mL of every 1 mL (1:4, QCE 175 mg)
Recommended Purpose
- Herbal support for colds, flu and infection
- For the relief of sore throats
- Helps manage the symptoms of upper respiratory infections
