Pairs Well With

Why It Works

➕ What does raw honey mean?
Raw honey is extracted and strained without being heated to pasteurising temperatures, so it keeps its natural enzymes, pollen and aroma. It crystallises over time, which is a sign it has not been heat-treated.
➕ Why is buckwheat honey so dark?
Buckwheat nectar is naturally rich in plant pigments and polyphenols, which give the honey its deep colour and strong, malty taste.
➕ How is it different from wildflower honey?
Wildflower honey comes from mixed blossoms and is lighter and floral; buckwheat honey comes mainly from buckwheat fields and is darker and more robust.

Frequently Asked Questions

Product Information

➕ Where is it harvested?
Northern Ontario and Quebec.
➕ What does it taste like?
Strong and malty, with molasses notes; much bolder than light honey.
➕ Is it kosher?
Yes, it is kosher certified.
➕ Who is OneRoot?
OneRoot is a Canadian honey company that sources raw honey from beekeepers in Northern Canada, keeps each origin unblended, and has it tested by independent labs for antibiotic and pesticide residues.

Benefits of Ingredients

➕ Is anything added?
No. The only ingredient is Canadian buckwheat honey.
➕ Does it contain gluten from buckwheat?
Buckwheat is not related to wheat, and the honey is made from nectar, not grain. The manufacturer still lists wheat (gluten) as a may-contain.
➕ Is it vegan?
No. Honey is made by bees, so it is not vegan.

Usage and Storage

➕ My honey has gone solid. Is it spoiled?
No. Raw honey naturally crystallises. Set the closed jar in warm (not boiling) water and stir until it softens, or simply spread it as is.
➕ How should I store it?
Keep the lid closed at room temperature, away from moisture. There is no need to refrigerate; cold speeds up crystallisation.
➕ Can babies have this honey?
No. Never give honey to infants under 12 months old because of the risk of infant botulism.

Dark raw buckwheat honey for tea, baking, glazes and marinades. Serving size 20 g.

Additional Ingredients

Canadian Buckwheat Honey.

Allergy Information

Honey is a bee product and may contain traces of pollen; not suitable for anyone allergic to bees, bee products or pollen. May contain: wheat (gluten) (manufacturer allergen statement).

Warnings

DO NOT FEED HONEY TO INFANTS UNDER 12 MONTHS OF AGE. Honey can contain Clostridium botulinum spores, which an infant gut cannot yet defend against, and infant botulism is a serious illness. This applies to all honey, raw or pasteurised. Honey is a bee product - not vegan, and unsuitable for anyone with an allergy to bees, bee products or pollen. Honey is approximately 80% sugar; consider this if you are managing blood glucose or dental risk. Raw and unpasteurised - crystallisation is normal and not a fault. Do not add to boiling liquid, which degrades the natural enzymes. Store at room temperature.
