Naka Pro B12 Methylcobalamin 5000mcg Details

Naka Pro B12 Methylcobalamin 5000mcg is a single-ingredient sublingual tablet — one tablet placed under the tongue delivers 5000 mcg of vitamin B12 in its methylcobalamin form, with 125 tablets to a bottle. This is the high end of Naka's B12 range, intended for people who are not absorbing B12 well from food or from ordinary swallowed supplements rather than for routine daily topping up.

B12 is required wherever cell turnover is high — the gastrointestinal tract, bone marrow and the nervous system — and it regulates blood cell production alongside folic acid. Naka notes that the body can store up to five years' worth, which is why a shortfall can take years to show up. Made in Canada, peanut free, produced in a nut free facility.

Who This B12 Is For

  • People whose digestion is the bottleneck — a sublingual tablet does not depend on stomach acid or intrinsic factor
  • Anyone a practitioner has moved to a high-dose B12 rather than a maintenance amount
  • Vegetarians who do not eat eggs or dairy products, who Naka identifies as needing B12 supplementation
  • Those already on a B complex who have been told to add extra B12 on top of it
  • People eating a high-protein diet, which Naka notes raises B12 requirements
  • Shoppers who want the activated methylcobalamin form rather than cyanocobalamin

Who this product is NOT for: If you are simply covering a plant-based diet, 5000 mcg is far beyond what that needs and Naka Pro B12 Methylcobalamin 1000mcg or Naka Platinum Liposomal B12 Drops are the sensible choice. Naka's own characteristics list this as dairy free, but the tablet base does contain lactose — if you avoid lactose entirely, the drops or a spray are the cleaner route. And if B12 is one of several B vitamins you are short on, buying it alone is the wrong move: Naka Platinum Pro BioMax covers the whole group in activated forms.

Vitamart's Take

There is a real reason this dose exists, and it is not that more is better. Passive uptake of B12 across the tissue of the mouth is inefficient — a small percentage of what you put there — so the way a sublingual product gets a usable amount into you is to start with a large amount. That is the whole logic of 5000 mcg, and why high-dose sublinguals are the standard answer when the normal absorption pathway is not working. B12 is water-soluble, so what you do not use leaves in urine.

The trade-off is that you are paying for one nutrient in one form, with nothing else in the bottle — exactly right if B12 is your specific gap, wasteful if it is not. 125 tablets at one a day is a little over four months, a shorter run than Naka's liquid formats give you. And it has to be held under the tongue to do what it is designed to do; swallowed, it is an ordinary B12 tablet subject to the same absorption chain you were trying to work around.

How This B12 Compares

Across the range, B12 products separate on three things: the dose, whether the delivery route avoids the gut, and whether it is B12 alone or part of a complex.

  • Versus Naka Pro B12 Methylcobalamin 1000mcg: Same tablet idea at a fifth of the dose and 200 tablets instead of 125. That one is maintenance; this one is the corrective dose.
  • Versus Naka Herbs Nutri B12 5000mcg Sublingual Liquid: The same 5000 mcg in a 250 ml liquid. Choose the liquid if you dislike tablets or want to split the dose; choose the tablet for a measured amount with nothing to shake or pour.
  • Versus Naka Platinum Instant B12 Spray 1000mcg: A fifth of the dose, but the fastest format to actually use. Better for consistency, not for correcting a deficiency.
  • Versus a B complex: A complex typically carries a few hundred micrograms of B12 among the other Bs. If your target is B12 specifically, this is the direct route and the two can be taken together.

Why 5000 mcg Rather Than 1000?

Normal B12 absorption is a narrow pipe. Dietary B12 is bound to intrinsic factor in the stomach and taken up by a receptor system in the last stretch of the small intestine, and that system saturates at a very small amount per meal. When it works, you need very little. When it does not — low stomach acid, or too little intrinsic factor — the pipe is closed regardless of how much you swallow, and this is where a sublingual product earns its place.

Absorption through the lining of the mouth does not use that receptor system at all. It is simple diffusion, driven by concentration: the more B12 sitting against that tissue, the more crosses. Diffusion is far less efficient than the receptor route, so a high starting dose is how you end up with a meaningful amount in circulation. Methylcobalamin matters here too — it is the form the body uses directly, rather than cyanocobalamin, which has to be converted first.

How To Use

Take 1 tablet per day placed under the tongue or as directed by a health care professional.

Frequently Asked Questions

➕ Do I have to let it dissolve, or can I swallow it?
Let it dissolve under the tongue — that is the point of the format. Swallowed, it becomes an ordinary B12 tablet that depends on the same absorption chain a sublingual is designed to bypass.
➕ Is 5000 mcg too much?
B12 is water-soluble and the excess is passed in urine rather than stored up from a daily dose. The high amount is there because sublingual uptake is inefficient, not because the body needs 5000 mcg.
➕ Can I take this with a B complex?
Yes — Naka notes that if additional B12 is needed it can be taken in addition to a B complex. The Bs work together, and extra B12 does not displace the others.
➕ Why does a dairy free product contain lactose?
Lactose is a common tablet base, and Naka lists this product as dairy free in its own characteristics. If you avoid lactose for any reason, choose a liquid or spray B12 instead.
➕ How is methylcobalamin different from cyanocobalamin?
Methylcobalamin is an activated form the body can use as it arrives. Naka describes it as easier for the body to use than cyanocobalamin, which has to be converted first.
➕ How long will one bottle last?
125 tablets at one per day is just over four months. If you want a longer run from a single purchase, the drops and liquids go much further.
