Balzac's Blend Coffee Benefits

  • Marble roast — Light and dark beans blended together rather than roasted to one level.
  • Molasses and milk chocolate — With graham cracker in the middle of the cup.
  • Bold but rounded — Full flavoured without the sharpness of a dark roast.
  • 100% arabica — No robusta in the blend.
  • Three formats — Whole bean, a ground tin, or a case of pods.
  • Roasted in Ontario — By a Canadian company with cafés across the province.
  • Named for the writer — Balzac reputedly drank prodigious quantities of coffee.

How to Use

  1. Grind whole beans just before brewing, or spoon the ground straight from the tin.
  2. Use roughly two tablespoons per cup and water just off the boil.
  3. Reseal the bag or tin and keep it somewhere cool and dark.
  4. Pods drop straight into a single-serve brewer.

Who It's For

  • A daily cup that suits everyone in the house
  • Drip machines and French press
  • Anyone who finds dark roasts too sharp

Pairs Well With

Why It Works

➕ What is a marble roast?
Beans roasted to different levels are blended together rather than roasting the whole batch to one point. You get the brightness of a lighter roast and the body of a darker one in the same cup.
➕ Why does the roast level matter more than the origin?
Roasting drives most of what you taste. A light roast keeps the bean's own acidity and fruit; a dark roast replaces it with caramelised, smoky notes.
➕ Whole bean or ground?
Whole bean keeps its flavour considerably longer, because ground coffee has far more surface area exposed to air. Grinding to order is the single biggest improvement most people can make.
➕ Who was Balzac?
Honoré de Balzac, the French novelist, who worked through the night on enormous quantities of coffee. The company and this blend are named after him.

Frequently Asked Questions

Product Information

➕ What formats does it come in?
A 340g bag of whole beans, a 300g ground tin, or a case of six 18-count pod boxes.
➕ Is it organic?
Not this blend. The Farmers and Espresso blends are the organic ones.
➕ Is it whole bean or ground?
Both, and pods where the blend offers them. Pick the format from the menu.
➕ Where is it roasted?
In Ontario, by Balzac's Coffee Roasters.

Benefits of Ingredients

➕ What does 100% arabica mean?
Only arabica beans, no robusta, which is the harsher and more caffeinated species.
➕ How many pods in a case?
One hundred and eight, as six boxes of eighteen.
➕ Is the ground coffee in a tin?
Yes, a 300g tin rather than a bag.

Usage and Storage

➕ How should I store it?
Somewhere cool and dark, sealed. Not the fridge, which introduces moisture and other smells.
➕ How long does it stay fresh?
Best within a few weeks of opening. Whole beans hold their flavour longer than ground.
➕ Are the pods recyclable?
Check the packaging for the current guidance, which varies by municipality.
