MCHC and MCHA supplements are whole-bone forms of calcium known as microcrystalline hydroxyapatite. Instead of isolated calcium, they supply calcium and phosphorus in the natural ratio found in bone, along with trace minerals and collagen proteins — which is why many people choose them for bone support. You'll find them here as capsule formulas, often paired with vitamin D, K2, magnesium and boron. Shipped across Canada from our Ontario warehouse.

    What is MCHC (microcrystalline hydroxyapatite)?

MCHC — microcrystalline hydroxyapatite concentrate — is a whole-bone form of calcium, typically sourced from cattle bone. Rather than isolated calcium, it provides the full mineral matrix found in bone: calcium and phosphorus in their natural ratio, plus trace minerals and collagen proteins. MCHA refers to the same hydroxyapatite calcium; the exact naming and concentration vary from brand to brand.

    Why people choose whole-bone calcium

Many people pick MCHC or MCHA over plain calcium because it supplies the same components the body uses to build and maintain bone — calcium, phosphorus, collagen and trace minerals — in one whole-food-style source. It's a common choice within bone-building formulas for that reason.

What to look for in a bone formula

    • Co-factor nutrients — many formulas add vitamin D, vitamin K2, magnesium and boron, which the body uses alongside calcium for bone maintenance.
    • Elemental calcium — check how much actual calcium each serving provides, not just the total MCHC weight.
    • Capsules per day — whole-bone formulas can run several capsules per serving, so check the label to see what a full dose looks like.

    Boron-free options

Some people prefer to avoid added boron. Boron-free versions are available here, including New Roots Strong Bones (Boron-Free) and NFH Osteo SAP (Boron-Free).

A note on source and safety

MCHC and MCHA are made from bovine (cattle) bone, so they are not vegetarian or vegan — if you need a plant-based option, look at algae-based or citrate calcium instead. These products are for general bone support and are not a treatment for osteoporosis or any bone condition; if you've been diagnosed with one, work with your doctor. Stick to recommended calcium intakes, take calcium away from certain medications, and check with your pharmacist if you have kidney concerns or take other supplements.
