Glycine is the smallest amino acid, and one of the most versatile — the body uses it to build collagen, make glutathione, and support calm, restful sleep. You'll find it here as straight L-glycine in powder and capsules, plus the related compounds DMG (dimethylglycine) and TMG (trimethylglycine). Stocked here and shipped from our Ontario warehouse across Canada.

    What people take glycine for

    • Calm & sleep — glycine is popular taken before bed for its calming role; many people take a few grams of powder in water in the evening.
    • Skin, joints & collagen — glycine is one of the main amino acids in collagen, so it's used to support the body's own collagen-building.
    • Glutathione support — glycine is one of three amino acids the body uses to make glutathione, which is why it's often paired with NAC (see also glutathione).

    Glycine, DMG, and TMG

    These are related but distinct:

    • L-glycine — the plain amino acid; the most versatile, mild and slightly sweet, easy to take as powder.
    • DMG (dimethylglycine) — glycine with two methyl groups; taken for energy and immune support.
    • TMG (trimethylglycine) — also called betaine; involved in methylation and homocysteine metabolism. See TMG.

    Forms

Powder is the most popular for glycine (flexible dosing, dissolves easily, faintly sweet); capsules and tablets offer a fixed dose. DMG and TMG are usually capsules or tablets.

    Glycine in Canada

    A note on glycine

Glycine is generally very well tolerated, with occasional mild stomach upset at higher doses. If you take medication (including clozapine, which glycine may interact with), have a health condition, or are pregnant or breastfeeding, check with your healthcare provider first.
