What frankincense is used for

In aromatherapy, frankincense is valued for its warm, woody, slightly sweet scent — a grounding aroma many people use for relaxation, meditation and creating a calm atmosphere. Diluted in a carrier oil, it's also a popular addition to homemade skincare and massage blends.

Essential oil vs resin extract

Most products here are steam-distilled frankincense essential oil; a resin extract is a different, more traditional preparation. You'll also see 100% pure single oils (best for diffusing or for diluting yourself) alongside pre-diluted blends like NOW's 20% oil blend, which are ready to use on the skin.

How to use it safely

Add a few drops to a diffuser, or dilute in a carrier oil such as jojoba or coconut before applying to skin — and always patch-test first, since pure essential oils are highly concentrated. Keep oils away from the eyes.

Important: not for internal use

These are aromatherapy oils for inhalation and topical (diluted) use — they are not meant to be swallowed or taken internally. Store out of reach of children and pets. If you're looking for frankincense as an oral joint supplement, that's a different product — see boswellia.
