Bilberry is a small blue-purple berry closely related to the blueberry, prized for its rich supply of anthocyanins — the antioxidant pigments that give it its deep colour. It’s best known as a traditional support for eye and vision health, and it’s often paired with lutein and zeaxanthin in eye-focused formulas. You’ll find it here as standardized extracts and higher-strength capsules (such as 2000 mg), on its own or in vision blends. Its antioxidants also make it a popular pick for everyday wellness. Shipped across Canada from our Ontario warehouse.

    What bilberry is

Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) is a European cousin of the blueberry, with darker flesh and a higher concentration of anthocyanins — the purple-blue antioxidant compounds it’s valued for. It has a long history of traditional use, and today it’s taken mainly as a standardized extract in capsules.

    Bilberry and eye health

Bilberry’s best-known use is supporting eye and vision health, which is why it so often appears alongside lutein, zeaxanthin and vitamin A in vision formulas. It’s used to support healthy eyes as part of a normal routine rather than to treat any eye condition — see an eye-care professional for vision problems.

    Choosing a bilberry supplement

    • Standardized extract — look for a set percentage of anthocyanins (often around 25%) for a consistent dose of the active compounds.
    • Strength — products range from lower-milligram standardized extracts to high-strength whole-berry equivalents like 2000 mg.
    • Blends — many pair bilberry with lutein and zeaxanthin for a more complete eye-support formula.
