Giddy Yoyo Lucuma Details

  • Lucuma (Pouteria Lucuma) is a subtropical fruit native to the Andes region of Peru. The fruit is yellowish green and egg-shaped with a dry, starchy yellow-orange flesh.
  • Peruvian tribes view the lucuma fruit as a symbol of fertility and creation.
  • Lucuma is naturally sweet and has a low Glycemic Index rating, making it a healthy choice for individuals seeking to decrease their sugar consumption. The taste is described as maple, caramel or like a mild sweet potato.
  • Lucuma may be rich in antioxidants and contains healthy doses of fiber, vitamins and minerals and may be especially high in beta carotene, iron and niacin (vitamin B3).

Giddy Yoyo Lucuma has a full-bodied creamy texture and subtle delicate flavour that resembles maple syrup and sweet potato making it a perfect addition to smoothies or other beverages, chocolate creations (try our GY 63% sweet chocolate bar), ice cream, oatmeal, yogurt, granola, pudding, cakes, pies, pastry, cookies (did someone say cookies?), and anything else you can imagine. GY Lucuma is a great addition to your kitchen escapades as it helps combine and emulsify fats and oils with sugars. Lucuma may help fortify the nutritional content of your dessert. Also consider adding GY Lucuma to your home made baby food!

Lucuma is an exotic Peruvian fruit and also known as egg fruit. The lucuma tree is drought-resistant and on average grows 25 to 50 feet tall and can live for up to 500 years and still remain productive. Native to Ecuador, Peru and Chile, this round or ovaloid fruit is yellowish-green with a bright yellow-orange fibrous flesh. Today its flavour as an ice cream is often favored over chocolate or vanilla in many countries (hard to believe eh?). Although it grows in other tropical and subtropical regions, Giddy Yoyo Lucuma  grows in the Andean highlands of Peru and the fruit originating from this region is considered to be of superior flavour and nutritional value, and culturally revered. It has been honored spiritually and in the culinary fashion since ancient times. The Incas relied on lucuma fruit as a natural source of sugar, which is why it is often referred to as “Inca’s Gold”.

Lucuma may be rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. Giddy Yoyo Lucuma  has a low glycemic index thus it can be a great sugar alternative for those wishing to decrease their sugar intake. Lucuma is a low acid fruit and may be an excellent source of carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins A, B (especially B3) and C, and minerals. It may be especially abundant in beta-carotene, niacin, iron, zinc, dietary fibre, calcium, phosphorus and protein.
