Herbal Select Cranberry Plus Extract Product Description:
Cranberry is used in Herbal Medicine to help prevent recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs). A recent Cochrane review of the effectiveness of cranberry for preventing UTIs concluded that there is evidence that cranberry juice can reduce the number of symptomatic UTIs over a 12 month period, particularly in women with recurrent UTIs. Further study is needed to determine optimum dosages.
The active constituents of the cranberry are the proanthocyanidins (PAC) with type-A linkages. These molecules have been found to induce bacterial deformation by interfering with the synthesis of P-fimbriae (proteinaceous appendages critical for bacterial adhesion) rendering bacteria considerably less virulent. This effect has been seen in antibiotic susceptible and resistant strains of E. coli which cause UTIs
Herbal Select Cranberry Plus Directions:
Adults: Take 2 capsules daily with meals. Use for a minimum of 4 weeks to see beneficial effects.
